The objective of this study is to analyze the evolution of the total factor productivity (TFP) of commercial banks in Algeria after the financial liberalization reforms.
Using the Malmquist index estimated by the non parametric method DEA, on a sample of 10 banks, the results show that the banks experienced, on average, a slight improvement in their productivity during the period 2004-2017.
The average growth rates of the productivity indicators are : 4.6% for TFP, 6 % for total technical efficiency and -1.3% for technical progress.
The growth of TFP is linked more scale technical than technological progress.
It is characterized by an under-utilization of resources but appropriate returns to scale.
الملخص FRE
L'objectif de cette étude est d'analyser l'évolution de la productivité totale des facteurs (PTF) des banques commerciales en Algérie après les reformes de libéralisation financière.
En utilisant l'indice de Malmquist estimé par la méthode non-paramétrique de type DEA, sur un échantillon de 10 banques; les résultats démontrent que les banques ont en moyenne, connu une faible amélioration de leur productivité durant la période 2004-2017.
Les taux moyens de croissance des indicateurs de la productivité sont: 4.
6% pour la PTF, 6 % pour l'efficience technique totale et -1.
3% pour le progrès technique.
La croissance de la PTF est liée d'avantage à l'efficience d'échelle qu'au progrès technique.
Elle se caractérise par une sous-utilisation des ressources mais des rendements d'échelles appropriés.
