The craft activity in Algeria during the Ottoman period witnessed diversification and prosperity as a result of the spread of the various types of crafts that were practiced by men and women, and this was helped by the spread of various craftsmanship institutions such as workshops, shops and markets, in addition to the abundance of raw materials of animal, vegetable and mineral origin.

Most historical writings agree that urban women or what are known as women have abused many productive and service trades, especially urban women who have settled in the cities of Algeria.

In this article, we are conducting a historical study on the role of urban women in the flourishing of artisanal activity by identifying the most important productive, service and marketing trades that they possessed and the way they were practiced and their role in enriching artisan activity in Algeria during the Ottoman period based on a group of foreign writings.

I have focused in my research on this three Important sources paid attention to my research topic,They are the "memoirs of William Schaller" the American consul, and "Three years in Northwest Africa" by Heinrich von Maltsian, and "Algerian notes before the occupation" by Simon Pfeiffer", which gave rich information about urban women and craftsmanship during the Ottoman period.
