If a person suffers from a skin disease, s/he would treat it with the use of drugs and ointments for the skin.

At the time of Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah) and ˁUmrah (Minor Pilgrimage to Makkah), there are usually many reasons for using these skin ointments, so people need to know the ruling on using these ointments.

Being desirous to contribute to clarifying these jurisprudence rulings, I dwell on this research paper entitled "Ruling of using therapeutic ointments by a person assuming the state of ritual consecration: An authenticating applied study".

It examines some facts about these ointments, their most important types, and the extent to which people need them.

Having investigated jurists' views about fragrance and perfumes which are mentioned in the forbidden acts during ˀiḥrām, I drew an analogy between them and these medicinal ointments available in the modern time.

I supported each view with pieces of evidence mentioned by the jurists to conclude with the preponderant view regarding the ruling on muḥrim's local application of therapeutic ointments to her/his body, hair or any part of the body.

The study concludes with some results, the most important of which are the following: It is permissible for the muḥrim to use and apply therapeutic ointments to her/his body, whether these are fragrant or not.

The muḥrim applying therapeutic ointments to her/his body is not required to offer fidyah (compensation for a missed religious ceremony) to make up for such behavior as long as s/he uses local application for therapeutic purposes.

I wind up the study by providing some recommendations, such as educating physicians caring for pilgrims performing Hajj or ˁUmrah on the most important jurisprudence rulings related to medicines.
