ABSTRACT Despite the current state of rapprochement in Russia-Saudi Arabia relations, it is still far from the level of ‘strategic partnership.’ This is due to the differences between the two countries on many strategic and political issues, notably the Syrian crisis, the view of Iran’s regional behavior, the nature of US policies in the Middle East and the agreement between Moscow and Riyadh in terms of increasing oil/economic cooperation between them.

In the long term, this rapprochement is controlled by international and regional constraints including the US position, and Russia’s preference for strategic relations with the most influential countries in the Middle East, including Turkey, Israel and Iran, despite Moscow’s keenness to economically and financially benefit from cooperation with Saudi Arabia.
