Owing to the existence of widespread claims among researchers and scholars that Martial was a poet of the court, leading some to accuse him of being an opportunist, a stripper of principles and a flatterer of Domitianus and all influential people of his time; although these traditional accusations against him have begun to recede from the end of the last century, through some studies, which were limited to some of the epigrams tried to refute accusations of dependency and blarney the court that burdened the Martial, and put the problem of Martial' relationship with Domitianus in the right direction, even tried also to prove that the poet did not win anything from his admiration for Domitianus.

From this point on, in this research, we will examine for the first time all the epigrams in which Martial refers directly or indirectly to the emperors of Juli-Claudian Dynasty; since we have not found such a study in all literature written about the Martial until today, except merely some sporadic references between the folds of some studies.

Since the epigrams to be dealt with in this study are all political, this research bears the character of historical literary study.

It will therefore address the political thought and attitude of Martial towards the emperors of the Juli-Claudian Dynasty.

From this perspective, it will also attempt to explain the validity of the impression that has dominated the researchers to this day regarding Martial' political attitude towards Domitianus.
