This study aims to study the problems of orphans in the social welfare institution.

The research included (10) cases representing the research society, which represent the sample of orphans in the social welfare institution in the city of Mosul, five of which are from Dar Al-Zuhour for orphans and five from Al-Bara’im boys house.

The method used of the intentional sample, and the adoption of the case study as an exploratory study focusing on the individual in order to reach the status of hypotheses and reach the results of the situation of the individual using means including the interview and observation and observation participation.

The study hypothesized that there are several problems facing orphans living in orphanages in the city of Mosul, and indeed the study proved that the respondents have many problems related to different aspects, including psychological, social, economic and recreational.

On the psychological side, the study showed that the orphan suffers from fear and insecurity, waking up at night, difficulty sleeping, suffering from anxiety and tension, the tendency to be isolated, and feeling less than others.

As for the social problems, the results indicate that the orphan used violence in dealing with others, and the poor communication between orphans and their families, and the lack of adherence to the teachings and guidance of the orphanage before some orphans, and there are those who treat orphans arrogently and do not accept them because they are residents of the orphanage, To study the existence of economic problems suffered by the orphan child in the orphanage, such as the non-allocation of cash salaries for orphans by the state to spend their needs and to bear the burden of life in the future, as well as the lack of training courses for orphans to practice certain occupations such as sewing or nursing and such although it is assumed that it is the duties of the house deal with the issues of graduation from orphanage.

As for the cases examined, there are problems related to the entertainment aspect suffered by the orphan child in the social care home where all the cases have no library inside the house for reading.

There is no interest in creating and developing the hobbies and talents among the orphans to have a job to live later.

The cases also showed a lack of recreational activity such as setting up camps and making trips and trips limited to one-day trips to the tourist areas within the city organized by the house from time to time.

Also, there are no halls in the orphanages where sports are practiced such as football, tennis, soccer and even if there is no interest in activating the function of those halls.

The cases also revealed the lack of availability of modern games inside the house such as (Atari), (Playstation), (Ipad) and (computer).

As for the educational and health problems, there is no problem in these areas where there is a strong desire among the orphans to continue education and go to school and have access to school supplies.

On the health side, treatment is available and there is a continuous medical examination and vaccines are provided when needed.
