Knowledge is the hallmark of human society in today's world, which deep and fundamental transformations have been realized in all aspects of life, including the part that affects the economy, which has become the engine of economic competition by adding new economic values to products through Increase productivity and demand for new technologies and ideas.

In light of this global development, the Iraqi economy is facing serious challenges in order to establish its economic and social development efforts, while it is still occupied by lagging centers according to the knowledge economy index, which indicates the seriousness of the situation, which requires radical changes With a view to transforming into a knowledge economy which system is based on Pillars: (Education system, information technology, communication, innovation, innovation and governance).

On this basis, our study came to deepen the reality of the work of the knowledge economy system and its role in achieving sustainable development in Iraq, which is already suffering from a failure in the performance of its basic elements, because the exposure of country from the unfavorable conditions, at different levels.

This was done through basic axes, which reviewed the deteriorating reality of the system's operation and the performance of sustainable development in the country.
