Political participation is the essence of democracy and one of its important mechanisms, and it represents a revealing criterion for the reality of the democratic situation in any society.

There are many forms of political participation and their channels, from participation in voting to elections to the exercise of political power.

The participation of Iraqi women in the elections is an urgent necessity and a social demand aimed at promoting society, as well as all the economic, social, political and cultural changes and transformations in society, their political role, and the interrelationship between women and men.

Women in general, and in Iraq in particular, face significant difficulties in their participation in the political process, particularly in running for office and in the election to the legislature and their participation in decision-making that shape the state’s politics.

The first chapter on the practical march of Iraqi women after the establishment of the Kingdom of Iraq, which was a constitutional monarchy parliament limited decision-making on men without involving women who could succeed In all areas of work and emerged a number of Iraqi women who left a clear mark in Iraqi society.

While the second chapter dealt with the entry of women into the political process starting in 1980 and the experience of the elections to the Iraqi National Council, and obtaining the number of (16) of the seat in the Council, but not the level of maturity and does not depend on the foundations of democracy.
