This study envistigated the role of information technology and communications in the organizational excellence of the Jordanian university libraries in the Central Region and the difficulties they face from their employees’ Persective.

It also envistigated the impact of the following variables: library type, job title, sex, specialization, educational qualification and experience on the organizational excellence.

The study population consisted of all (265) employees working on the libraries specified, of whom (224) responded, presenting (84.5%) of the study population.

In order to achieve the objectives of the study and to answer its questions, a questionnaire was developed consisted of three parts: the first, included demographic data of respondents (library type, job title, sex, specialization, educational qualification and years of experience); the second consisted of seven dimensions of organizational excellence, which were: (leadership excellence, human resources excellence, organizational structure excellence, strategy excellence, organizational culture excellence, operational excellence and service excellence), and the third section was concerned with the difficulties faced by the intended libraries resulting from the role of information technology and communications in the organizational excellence.

Results showed that the total degree of respondent's estimation of the role of information technology and communications in organizational excellence was high, and that five dimensions of organizational excellence: leadership, services, strategy, processes, and organizational hierarchy were also estimated high, while two dimensions: human resources and organizational culture, were estimated as average.

Findings also showed that statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) were found between means of respondents’ estimates of the role of information technology and communications in the organizational excellence of the Jordanian university libraries in the Central Region due to the type of library, and due to variable of qualification infavor of private university libraries.

No such differences were found due to the variables of job title, specialization, sex, academic qualifications and experience.

Significant differences (α = 0.05) were also found between respondents’ estimates of the difficulties faced by the intended libraries resulting from the role of information technology and communications in their organizational excellence due to the variable of library type, infavor of government university libraries, Meanwhile, no such differences were found due to job title, specialization, sex, and experience on the intended difficulties.

The study recommended the development of an Arab model of organizational excellence for different libraries, especially university ones, and the development of an organizational culture of excellence, which should be disseminated and rooted among its employees, in addition to provide the necessary budgets for the implementation of organizational excellence programs and dissemination of its culture among employees of the government university libraries
