This study takes stock of the conditions in which French is taught/learned, its status and its place in the context of the foreign languages taught in Algeria.
In the aftermath of independence, the Algerian authorities advocated Arabization as a fundamental option for the rehabilitation of national identity.
French was transformed from a second language (or language widely spoken in Algerian society) to a first foreign language.
The English language, by virtue of its status as a language of exchange at the international level, finds its place in Algerian society and in various fields of scientific research.
In this dynamic, the Algerian institution is trying to give it a no less important place in the education system.
الملخص FRE
Cette étude dresse un état des lieux des conditions dans lesquelles s'effectue l'enseignement/apprentissage de la langue française, son statut et sa place dans le contexte des langues étrangères enseignées en Algérie.
Au lendemain de l'indépendance, le pouvoir algérien prône l'arabisation comme option fondamentale de la réhabilitation de l'identité nationale.
Le Français passe du statut de langue seconde (ou langue largement répandue dans la société algérienne) à celui de première langue étrangère.
La langue anglaise, de par son statut de langue d'échange au niveau international, trouve sa place dans la société algérienne et dans divers domaines de la recherche scientifique.
Dans cette dynamique, l'institution algérienne tente de lui accorder une place non moins importante dans le système éducatif
