The agricultural sector is the main source of food and many countries and international bodies and organizations give this sector more attention due to its direct link to the necessary commodities.

The study problem summarize in the contribution of the agricultural sector in the Libyan GDP as known the structure of the Libyan economy (rent economy) and the excessive dependence on a single commodity which is oil, so the assessment of, contribution of the agricultural sector including the oil sector may be unfair and does not reflect the clear picture of the performance of the agricultural sector due to the impact of world oil prices on the value of GDP The study was based on published and non-published secondary data during the period (1973-2010)such as Central Bank of Libya, the Ministry of Agriculture and international and local organizations such as the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and some related studies Regarding to the contribution of agriculture sector to GDP.

The results showed that the agricultural output growth rate increased dramatically during the 1970s and 1980s as a result of the plans and programmes that have been applied during that period and the availability of adequate funding for the plans.

Where the rate of growth in the GDP was 7.35%, while in the oil sector amounted about 80%, and in the agricultural sector 9.5%.The Non-oil GDP growth rate was about 6.6%, while the growth rate of GDP as a dependent variable and the oil production as an independent variable was about 0.004%.

The growth rate of GDP as dependent variable and agriculture as an independent variable was about 0.1% , which is a clear evidence of the role of agricultural output in the GDP despite the classification of Libya as an oil country, but illustrates the important and vital role of the agricultural sector, and the growth rate of GDP as a dependent variable and non-GDP Oil of oil as independent was about 0.6%.The contribution of the agricultural sector amounted to about 2024.73 million Libyan dinars, which reflects the real contribution of the agricultural sector in the Libyan GDP, which is a significant contribution, considering that the Libyan economy is categorized as an extractive economy that depends mainly on oil and indirectly indicates the results of the development plans that have been implemented on the agricultural sector during the research period, which indicates the need to pay attention to the Libyan agricultural sector and considered a promising sector that can achieve food security for the Libyan citizen in light of the global changes taking place, both in economic and political aspects.
