During and after the liberation war, Algerian writers and filmmakers felt compelled to take on the role of witness.
through their works, they have expressed the evils of a society and the violent acts committed against a freedom-loving people.
the opium and the stick written by Mouloud Mammeri and adapted for cinema by Ahmed Rachedi is one of these committed works.
this article aims to highlight the commitment of this fiction in two different semiotic systems.
we will try to go back briefly to history in order to determine the origins of this commitment and to analyze its transposition from writing to the screen in the case of the opium and the stick.

Durant la guerre de libération et au lendemain de celle-ci, écrivains et cinéastes algériens se sont sentis obligés d’assumer le rôle de témoin.
à travers leurs oeuvres, ils ont exprimé les maux d’une société et les actes violents commis contre un peuple épris de liberté.
l’opium et le bâton écrit par mouloud Mammeri et adapté au cinéma par Ahmed Rachedi est l’une de ces oeuvres engagées.
cet article vise de mettre en lumière l’engagement de cette fiction dans deux systèmes sémiotiques différents.
nous tenterons de remonter brièvement à l’histoire afin de déterminer les origines de cet engagement ainsi que d’analyser sa transposition de l’écrit à l’écran dans le cas de l’opium et le bâton.
