The vast majority of Muslim scholars have agreed on the great stature of Imām al-Bukhārī in the fields of hadith, hidden defects of hadith, and critique of narrators.

This has been attested to by his teachers, peers, and students, as well as those who came after them.

However, we find in our times those who want to undermine al-Bukhārī’s integrity and call to doubt what he narrates in his Ṣaḥīḥ, by claiming that he used to lie, miswrite, and changing the wording of the narrations he transmitted from his teacher, Imām al-Ḥumaidī.

This paper lists the narrations of al-Bukhārī from his teacher al-Ḥumaidī in al-Jāmiʿ alṢaḥīḥ.

In this paper, we will investigate the sources of alBukhārī for his narrations from al-Ḥumaidī; then, we will mention the books written by al-Ḥumaidī, the types of narrations transmitted by al-Bukhārī from him, the extent to which al-Bukhārī adhered to the wording of alḤumaidī in his book (by comparing and analyzing them), the narrations which al-Bukhārī included in their original wording; by meaning; or abridged, which exonerates him from the accusation of falsification; and finally, we will discuss the narrations transmitted by al-Bukhārī from alḤumaidī which are not found in his book, thereby answering the question of where he got those narrations from.

This paper consists of an introduction, a prologue, two chapters, and an epilogue.

The prologue consists of two topics: a) Listing al-Bukhārī’s sources for his narrations from al-Ḥumaidī, b) The books authored by al- Ḥumaidī.

As for the two chapters, the first lists the narrations of alBukhaari from al- Ḥumaidī which are mentioned in alMusnad, and the second chapter lists the narrations of alBukhaari from al- Ḥumaidī which are not mentioned in al-Musnad.

The epilogue consists of the most important conclusions of this paper, followed by indices of sources and references, and lastly, a table of contents.

Method: This paper follows the fundamental, analytical, and critical methods.

Results: Imām al-Bukhaari is exonerated from the accusations of miswriting and falsification.

The differences found in the wording of his narrations compared to his teacher’s narrations are ultimately due to the practices of narration by meaning or abridging hadith, which have been deemed permissible by the majority of scholars with the condition of not changing the meaning of the original hadith.

Furthermore, the paper demonstrates some aspects of al-Bukhārī’s methodology when it comes to narration by meaning.

In this paper, it becomes clear that al-Bukhārī’s narrations from al-Ḥumaidī are not restricted to what is in alMusnad only; rather, they also include the narrations which he heard personally from al-Ḥumaidī, as well as what he received from al-Ḥumaidī books, which I have listed in a dedicated topic.

Recommendations: There is a need for further study of the scholar’s methodology in narration and critique, and it is important to strictly follow in their footsteps.
