The Algerian Jurisprudential school is the least in study and care among other schools of contemporary researchers compared to its counterparts of Andalusia, Moroccan and Tunisian schools, a matter that makes the efforts of its scholars in serving Sharia sciences in general, and Maliki Sect in particular, a bit buried and unknown.

One of the most important of the jurisprudential summaries is “Jamie Al-Ummahat” book (“Collector of Major Issues”), authored by Abo Amr Ibn Al-Hajib Al-Maliki who died in the Year 746H, and known as Mukhtasar Ibn Al-Hajib Al-Fiqihi (Ibn Al-Hajib Jurisprudential Summary).

This research concentrates on the efforts of the scholars of Algeria in serving this summary, where this book entered the Algerian city of Bejaya at the end of the Seventh Hegiric Century and scholars of Bejaya had given it much concern, and from there it has disseminated to the rest of Moroccan Islamic countries.

This study comes into three topics.

The first topic is a translation on Ibn Al-Hajib and identification of his book “Jamie Al-Ummahat” book (“Collector of Major Issues”).

The second topic is about the Algerian scholars who cared for and explained the book of Ibn Al-Hajib, with bibliography of each of them and the titles of their books and a brief translation.

It appears that the number of Algerian scholars who explained this summary are more than the scholars of any other country.

The third topic is about a study of a sample of the Algerian explanations of the summary of Ibn Al-Hajib.

It is the explanation of Sharafuddin Al-Zawawi Al-Mangalati who died in the Year 744H, and it is one of the oldest explanations of Maliki scholars of this book and the oldest explanation of an Algerian scholar that reached us which contains an translation to Al-Zawawi and identification of his book and statement of the sources that he used in his explanation, with a presentation of a group of issues that show the scientific value of this book and the status of the author among his peers and his way in studying issues compared to the explanation of Ibn Abdulsalam Al-Hawwari who died in the year 749H and the explanation of Khalil Ibn Ishaq Al-Jundi (776H).
