Knowledge has become the most significant resource for distinguishing today's organizations, including information institutions, which have realized the importance of adopting the concept of knowledge management to activate the knowledge they possess, through the processes associated with the production, organization, and sharing of this knowledge in a manner that contributes to improving service and activities in these institutions.

With the emergence of advanced applications of the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT), in addition to the development of information and communication technologies, it can be used in knowledge management, because IoT technologies have the ability to link physical entities and support interaction with people.

From this standpoint, this study seeks to highlight the role of IoT applications in supporting knowledge management activities in information institutions and thus, improving their services.

To achieve this goal, this study adopts the descriptive approach, by investigating and analyzing the published Arabic and foreign literature in order to extrapolate the areas of the relationship between the IoT and knowledge management activities in information institutions.

The results of this study indicated that information institutions have benefited from the IoT to track all the physical and moral entities available in these institutions and determine their locations in case they are lost or removed from their specific places.

In addition, they have become able to monitor visitor numbers and determine peak hours and the most used sources, and thus able to provide fast interactive services that respond to the aspirations of their users.

Therefore, this study recommends that information institutions take advantage of IoT applications to meet the changing needs of their users.
