The year 1929 witnessed a global economic crisis that pervaded large parts of the world, especially the major countries, and that crisis included the controlled colonies, and France had a large share as a result of that crisis, and it spread to reach all its colonies, especially Lebanon, as economic life was disrupted to a large extent, so factories were disrupted, shops closed and announced Banks and companies have gone bankrupt, and the Lebanese currency, which is linked to the French franc, has depreciated.

This economic crisis has burdened the Lebanese citizen, who suffered from unemployment and lack of job opportunities, whether in the government sector in which a certain group of the people was appropriated, whose loyalty was in line with the French interests.

Likewise, the Lebanese peasant suffered from the domination of feudalism, merchants, usurers, and the high taxes imposed that prevented the improvement of his living situation.

He preferred to migrate from the countryside to the city and then abroad when he had the opportunity, and the deteriorating situation included the industrial sector, the demobilization of a large number of unskilled workers, the domination of monopolistic companies over the local market, the control of customs outlets, the imposition of taxes on Lebanese products and the exemption of companies from paying customs duties.
