الملخص EN

This study aims to identify and analyze the dimensions of the economic and social role of microfinance institutions by studying the case of the Palestine for Credit and Development “FATEN” as the most important and oldest microfinance institution in Palestine.

The study uses a methodology combining descriptive and quantitative analysis, where the views of the beneficiaries of the financial and nonfinancial services were extrapolated to estimate the economic and social impact of these services at the beneficiaries themselves, their families, local community and the national economy.

On the other hand, the methodology has relied on evaluating the performance of “FATEN” since its inception.

The results highlighted the significant economic role of “FATEN” at the beneficiaries’ level and at families and local community levels.

Moreover, the results clearly confirmed the social impact of the productive and non-productive loans provided by “FATEN”.

It was also found that “FATEN” strongly supports the government’s efforts in the fight against poverty, low standards of living and unemployment.

It also supports its efforts to promote sustainable development .
