The street network in the city of Kirkuk suffers from the problem of traffic congestion in some of its streets, especially after the large increase in the number of cars in Iraq in general and the city of Kirkuk in particular, due to the ence of legal controls and limitations that limit the import and ownership of cars, which led to a significant increase in their numbers in the recent period.

On the other hand, the expansion and development of the street network in the city has weakened, which led to an increase in the volume of traffic beyond the capacity of some streets, and consequently it suffers from traffic congestion, especially at peak times.

The research relied on remote sensing techniques to measure traffic volumes and to identify streets and areas suffering from the problem of traffic congestion, and developing a map representing the most important congestion areas in the city, identifying the factors causing this problem and its negative effects and developing the necessary solutions to it, and developing a map that represents the most important intersections in the city according to their types.
