Saudi Arabia has adopted a clear policy towards the Lebanese crisis and has tried to implement its policy of achieving Arab solidarity and joint cooperation, seeking to create a state of balance and national reconciliation.

Saudi mediation has also emerged in the Lebanese crisis by clearly reducing the war every now and then with deliberate silence, influencing the parties to the conflict by pressing them to reduce objections, to accept certain options, or to provide political guarantees to others.

Saudi Arabia's position on the Lebanese crisis went through two stages: the first (1982-1988), after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, and the growth of Shiites affected by the Iranian revolution.

At this stage, Saudi Arabia intensified its peaceful initiatives to reconcile the Lebanese and end the war.

The second stage (1988-1992) was the Taif stage, which resulted from the split of the state and its institutions in September 1988 following the presidential elections in Lebanon.

The Kingdom had to find an effective initiative to reach a state of peace.
