The present study aimed to explore the reality of political participation in the elections among youth in Jordan.

It aimed to explore the reasons of the youth’s reluctance from the political participation in Jordan.

It aimed to explore the political participation level of the youth in Jordan.

It aimed to explore the barriers hindering the youth in Jordan from the political participation.

The sample consists from 382 female and male students.

Those students were selected from Jordanian universities (i.e.

the University of Jordan and Zaytooneh University).

The relevant statistical methods were used to reach results.

It was found that the political participation levels of the students at Jordanian universities vary.

The third area (i.e.

lack of interest in political participation) show the highest percentage (65%).

The second area (i.e.

political knowledge) shows a percentage of 30%.

The third area (i.e.

political interests) shows a mean of 5%.

It was found that there are legislative, political, cultural, social and economic barriers hindering the youth in Jordan from the political participation in theelections.

The most significant barriers in this regard include: the absence of freedom of speech and the one vote law.

They include: the absence of curricula for encouraging the youth to do activities that fall under political participation.

They include: social barriers, such as: the dominance of the authority of the leaders of clans.

They include: the desire of many young people in Jordan to immigrate.

Based on the respondents’ answers, the severity of the security-related barriers aren’t high.

However, the latter result doesn’t apply to the political activists who are brought to court.

Brining some political activists to court shall discourage youth from the political participation in the elections and promote fear among them.

Youth in Jordan face personal barriers and self-barriers that discourage them from the political participation in the elections.

The personal barriers and selfbarriers include: the lack of financial resources and intellectual and educational competences.

The barriers hindering the youth from the political participation in the elections include: cultural barriers.

The cultural barriers include: barriers related to customs, religion, and clan.

They include: the lack of knowledge about politics.

The barriers hindering the youth from the political participation in the elections include: economic barriers.

The economic barriers include the following ones: 1) Unemployment and poor distribution of wealth.

2) The wealth is possessed by specific people only.

Several recommendations were proposed.

For instance, the researcher recommends promoting knowledge among Jordanian youth with the political figures who made contributions locally, regionally and globally.

He recommends ensuring that all people enjoy freedom of expression.

Such freedom should be considered as the basis of the political participation.

The researcher recommends providing financial support for the political participation of the youth.

He recommends activating the role of political parties in the process of developing political programs that aim at increasing the political participation of the youth.
