This article tackles the translation of proverbs in a novel of the Moroccan francophone author Abdelhak Serhane, and its problematic issue for the Arabic translator.

When translating proverbs, the translation position often varies between obliterating its features, adapting it to the translator’s culture and highlighting its peculiarities in translation and preserving it in complete openness to the culture of the other, as called for by the French thinker Antoine Berman through his concept of ethical translation that we will adopt in order to delve into the translation of Moroccan proverbs cited in Serhane’s novel.
