Research on Mouridism in French sources is often characterized by a certain number of problems.
The main problems, among others, are: the lack of objectivity, if we consider the colonial sources, the problem of linguistic barrier which prevents many researchers from accessing the work of the founder of Mouridism and that of his biographers accredited, all written in Arabic, the lack of culture in Islamic sciences and the confusion made between the socio-cultural and religious realities of Eastern and Mediterranean and the realities of culturally very different sub-Saharan societies

La recherche sur le Mouridisme dans les sources en français est, souvent, caractérisée par un certain nombre de problèmes.
Les principaux problèmes, entre autres, sont : le manque d’objectivité, si l’on considère les sources coloniales, le problème de barrière linguistique qui empêche beaucoup de chercheurs à accéder à l’oeuvre du fondateur du Mouridisme et de celle de ses biographes attitrés, toutes écrites en arabe, le manque de culture en sciences islamiques et la confusion faite entre les réalités socio-culturelles et religieuses orientales et méditerranéennes et les réalités des sociétés subsahariennes culturellement très différentes
