The Iraqi provinces were fertile hotbed for the activities of many Missionaries which arrived them since the seventeenth century with various names.

Concerning the north of Iraq, specifically in the onset of the nineteenth century, the British and American circles was alerted by the importance of the missionary activity in this region in an endeavor to fulfill an essential goal, which is represented by disseminating Protestantism as an arrangement to get several Christian sects to their side as the first stage and eventually to accomplish a higher goal which is imposing the protection to the followers of Protestantism.

For the purpose of achieving this goal, these missionaries attempted to instigate the leader of this sect " Mar Sham'oun the seventeenth Ibrahim (1820-1821) to declare rebellion and the sabotage, devastation and immigration of the Nestorians to Mosul and Persia as a result of this rebellion.

Britain, once again, practiced its pressures on the Ottomans claiming that it tries to protect the protestants and then it obtained a Sultan's decree in 1848 which stipulates that this sect is a religious group which is independent from the other Christian groups.
