This study attempts to answer the following main question: What is the concept of the word "understatement" (al-Bakhs) in the Qur'an, and what is the significance in the context of the verses in it? It aims to identify the linguistic and conventional connotations of the word "understatement".

It also aims to reveal the content of its material, indicate its implications and the relationship between them, highlighting the words approaching it, and showing its significance in the context of the verses in which it is mentioned, through the use of the descriptive approach based on analysis, while taking advantage of the inductive and inference approaches.

The study reached a set of results, the most prominent of which were the breadth of the meaning of the term "understatement", its use in the Qur’an, its comprehensiveness of all material and moral rights, few and many, and the prohibition of understatement in all its forms, because it is unjust, and it is dissimilar to destruction and severing links.

It also shows how the method of the Qur’an varied in preventing it and warning against it, in order to suit the subject of the surah and the context of the verses in it.
