A positive shift in the Egyptian-Turkish relations is taking shape following years of tension.

This paper analyzes the development of relations from Egypt’s perspective in the context of the priorities of the Egyptian foreign policy since 2014 which is confronting Political Islam, facing the efforts aiming at changing the status quo in the region and restoring Egypt’s regional position.

The paper argues that these priorities go against Turkey’s ascendancy, something that makes geopolitical competition between the two countries inevitable.

normalization of relations between the two countries guarantees them common gains.

However, Egypt will not give up its commitments towards its anti-Turkey allies.
