Mortality is a varied phenomenon as it differs from one geographical environment to another.

It represents a reflection of morbidity in different settings.

It can be caused by many factors.

Some of them are internal related to diseases and others are external related to injuries and accidents of all kinds.

It differs from one age group to another.

studying the causes of death cannot be limited to the medical reasons only, as it goes beyond that linking the disease to mortality and its geographical, environmental and temporal dimensions.

The importance of this study stems from the fact that recognizing the reasons of mortality, and measuring how it is affected by diseases and injuries in the governorate is one of the most important means of assessing the effectiveness of the health system, its evaluation and development.

Considering the previous given facts, the study aims at determining the causes leading to death in Assiut governorate.

This is an attempt to establish health programs that can cover the needs of health authorities of development and concerning the map of deaths, and to determine the focus of their actions in the field of the geography of public health in the governorate.

The study relied on the historical and analytical approach to clarify the correlational relationships.

in accordance with this methodology and in order to achieve these goals , the study focused on the reality of mortality in the governorate as a general phenomenon and within the general framework of the republic.

It also searched both spatial and time variations of mortality and the change in its map and time series.

Again, the study dealt with an analysis of diseases, their prevalence rates, their rates of infection, their endemic index, their degree of concentration, and their relative hierarchy.

The study also presented an analysis of mortality, the spatial variation of the age structure of deaths, and the variation of age structure of mortality according to its causes.

The study concluded with an analysis of spatial variance of mortality rates, and accordingly the study enables the responsible entities of understanding the geographical and environmental factors that lie behind the spread of diseases ,the causes of death, its concentration and endemicity in different regions, and of directing hospitals that are located in areas of severe crisis with various diseases to prepare and provide the human and material resources to confront these diseases in an attempt to reduce the risk of death from various diseases.
