Each city has its own climatic characteristics which are acquired due to its geographical location within the latitude it is located on, as well as from its position and the surrounding natural phenomena along with human activities.

All these factors made each city different from the other depending on the influence of such factors.

Therefore, this paper aims to find out the causes of thermal variations between two cities in Diyala province, the city of Khanaqin, which is located in the far northeast of the province, within the semi-mountainous or wavy region and Al-Khalis city of that is located in the south-western part of the province within the plain territory.

To determine and identify thermal variations by calculating the Land Surface Temperature in (1991-2019) and also to determine thermal variations in the winter and summer seasons, the months of January and July were selected.

In the course oof the paper, it is found that the city of Khanaqin recorded a temperature rate higher than Al-Khalis city, the thermal difference during January was one degree Celsius in terms of the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded during 1991.

Furthermore, the difference increased up to (1.5 C.

) in 2019, whereas in July the difference mounted up to (3.6 C.

) to the highest degree, while the difference remained one and a half degrees to the lowest temperature in 1991.

In addition, the difference increased in 2019 to reach (5 C.

) to the highest and lowest recorded degrees in the two cities.
