Hilla city had many researches due to its importance and vital impact in the overall public life in Iraqi society، the issue has received many researches and studies، and if those studies and studies have shed light on various aspects of that given city، there is an aspect that is no less important.

It is the linguistic aspect which is sufficient to clarify many of the contents and facts that any researcher or investigator intends to reach، and this is what this research that was held under the title (The Names of The Old Areas of Hilla - A Search of Linguistic Origins) included.

The research - in general - stands at one of the angles of studies that dealt with Hilla، or the cities of Hilla in terms of specificity، revealing its linguistic origins، and identifying the root that the name of this city was derived from by checking - if possible - countries' books، linguistic lexicons، history books، etc.

The purpose of the study was to find out the origin of the designations، the reason for the names.

The means of that was language which undoubtedly a tool to add much information to the knowledge field.
