There have been many studies and researches written about the Ayyubid state in its various political, economic, social and cultural fields, but these many studies hardly mention anything about entertainment in this era, as if it were free of recreational means, despite their many and diverse, and the practice of various groups of society, this research, entitled: ( Sports and hiking in the Ayyubid era in Egypt and the Levant 567 – 648 AH /1171 – 1250 AD ) was an attempt to shed light on this important aspect of the history of the Ayyubid state, in a desire to further historical investigation of this aspect, and to show the extent to which the state of war and jihad affects this type of entertainment, and to be a modest effort.

The researcher follows by study the various physical and intellectual sports practiced by the people of the Egyptian and Levantine society in its various categories, with the intention of recreation and alleviating the pressures and scourges of wars, and developing the military capability; because some of them have a direct relationship with arts and plans of war.

He began by talking about the sport of hunting, which was loved by the Sultans of Beni Ayoub and their princes as a physical sport, and they considered it a manifestation of courage and equestrianism, and they benefited from it recreationally and for war, and spoke about equestrian games that took many forms, including horse racing, fencing, spear playing and ball play, which occupied a major place among sports and has been an important part of the lives of sultans, princes and members of the military class.

He also addressed other physical and mental sports that have spread in this era, the most important of which are wrestling, swimming, devil's game and dice, and then concluded the search by talking.
