The democratic question in a colonial country such as Algeria before 1962 has this in particular that isn’t asked only in institutional terms (system of representation, freedom, and constitutional rights).
It is also raised especially in a radical way in affirming the nation as a fact and the Algerian peoples’ political sovereign.
What distinguishes the different sections of the national movement is the definition and priority that some and others of these constituents establish between the social class strata that they represent and more essentially the appeal for national independence, for a State constitution endowed with political sovereign attributes.
الملخص FRE
La question démocratique dans un pays colonial tel que l’Algérie d’avant 1962 a ceci de particulier qu’elle ne se pose pas seulement en termes institutionnels (système de représentation, de libertés et de droits constitutionnels).
Elle se pose aussi et surtout de façon radicale dans l’affirmation du fait national et de la souveraineté politique du peuple algérien.
Ce qui distingue les différentes composantes du mouvement national, c’est donc la définition et la priorité que les unes et les autres de ces composantes établissent entre les revendications des couches sociales (des classes) qu’elles représentent et la revendication plus essentielle de l’indépendance nationale, de la constitution d’un État doté des attributs de la souveraineté politique.
