Despite their ephemeral nature in the Casbah of Algiers, the graffiti manage to pierce the silence of the walls by their lines, languages and discursive contents.
Between the spontaneous graffiti and the ones sponsored by local authorities to valorise local patrimony, a set of strategies have been mobilised in the Casbah.
Through this paper, we question the dynamics underlying the practice of graffiti in the Casbah of Algiers.
The objective is to visualise the types of graffiti that we come across in the Casbah, to examine the languages used to transmit a message or another and to decode the contents of these sociolinguistic marks or imprints.
الملخص FRE
Bien que leur présence soit éphémère à la Casbah d’Alger, les graffiti arrivent à percer le silence des murs par leurs tracés, leurs langues et leurs contenus discursifs.
Entre les graffiti spontanés et les graffiti sponsorisés par les autorités locales pour valoriser le patrimoine, un ensemble de stratégies langagières et discursives est mobilisé à la Casbah.
À travers cette contribution, nous interrogeons les dynamiques qui sous-tendent la pratique du graffiti à la Casbah d’Alger.
L’objectif consiste à visualiser les types de graffiti que l’on croise à la Casbah, interroger les langues qu’ils mobilisent pour transmettre tel ou tel message et décoder les contenus de ces marques ou traces socio-langagières.
