The study sought to explore the quality of the information circulated in social media platforms and the responsiveness of the government decision makers to using such platforms.

Descriptive and analytical tools were utilized to handle and process the information collected from the published sources as well as using a questionnaire survey designed specifically for this study.

A total of 187 public sector top-level managers in 19 Jordanian government agencies have participated in the survey.

The findings suggest that, although there has been clear recognition, justification and motivation among the Jordanian public sector decision makers about the quality indicators concerning the information circulated through social media platforms, which can provide an input for their decisions, the decision makers’ actual dependence on these platforms is still limited and dispersed.

The study also revealed non-significant statistical differences among the respondents regarding the quality of the information available on social media platforms and their responsiveness towards them in terms of their personal or occupational variables.

The study recommends that public sector organizations are requested to recognize, integrate, utilize and institutionalize information circulated through social media platforms as an input to assist them in making effective decisions and improve their governance systems.

In addition, necessary organizational, technological and legislative adjustments to the current bureaucratic structures of government should be made to cope up with this new wave.
