This study attempts to provide a close textual reading of Abū Tammām‟s poem: "A Barren Land and Another Being Rainy” which he recited as a eulogy in the praise of the governor of Mosul Malik Bin Touq Al-Taghlubi.

The study constitutes a close textual reading of the poem and applies the argumentation theory to compare between the text and its contextual occasion.

The study was keen to reveal the argumentation existing in the poem from its beginning to its end, by dividing it into multiple text units, thus revealing the poet's ability to harmonize the aesthetic and cultural aspects of the poem.

The study sheds light on the poetic argumentative and aesthetic techniques the poet employs to make the desired effect on the reader.
