This is a brief research, studying one of the issues regarding seeking blessings.

There is a hadīth mentioned about this issue that some scholars have declared to be acceptable.

Some people used this hadīth as a basis for doctrines that goes against the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamā’ah.

The hadīth narrated by aṭ-Ṭabarānī, al-Bayhaqī and Abū Nu’aym, which is studied in this research, says: “The messenger of Allah () sent [people] to the places of purification, so that they could bring water.

He then drank the water and hoped for the blessings from the Muslims hands.” I mentioned the hadīth and who narrated it, and I mentioned its content, and how some scholars inferred to its apparent meaning.

I studied the hadīth after that, and its chain of narrators, and showed that it was a mistake on the part of the narrator, and that it is Munkar (denounced), so it is not allowed to rely on it.

After that, I studied its text about seeking blessings, in accordance to the foundations of creed and the principles of Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah.

I concluded in this research that the hadīth is denounced, and that no one should seek blessings from anyone except from the Prophet (), and that the Prophet () did not seek blessings from the traces of the ablution of Muslims.
