This research paper deals with the expression of the balance of followers and innovation in the poetic discourse of Ibn Rashiq al-Masili (456), and examines his position on this serious issue and thorny paths whose features were not achieved with the early Arab critics, but found a satisfactory answer to him, where he singled it out in his “maydah "An independent chapter, in which the aspects of this issue were addressed with a deep analytical study that investigates the reasons for the influence and similarity of the creators, as he followed every idea and every saying, searching for its roots and its first author, trying to separate this issue, and he took a decisive position in which he equated the ancients and the moderns, " He did not disguise the old, nor did he dissolve in the new whims, because good poetry according to him is not measured by the scale of the age and time, but rather by the measure of quality and perfection.

With this vision, the old/following and the new/innovation were fairer, so poetry flowed out of the cycle of rivalry and conflict just as a hair sheds from the dough.

According to Ibn Rashiq, there is no escape from the necessity of the later benefiting from the previous, and the later has the right to take advantage of the heritage of the advanced, provided that he adds to it what he serves, and serves the generations that follow, and is attributed to everyone who has the bounty of his bounty.

He does not prefer followers over an innovator except by the extent of the elements of strength and weakness in them, or quality and badness, rejecting narrow regionalism, calling for inclusiveness and continuity, because poetic discourse has no boundaries, nor is it hindered by eons, but is always flowering and fruitful.
