There have beena number of outstanding scholarsin the history of the Islamic civilization, who have excelled in the various sciences.

the aim of this study is to show the pioneer of modern surgery.

known in the Andalusia as “Abulcasis”, Abu al-Qasim Al-Zahrawi 4th/ 10th century century, has wrote his famous book “al-Taṣrīf li-man ʿAjazʿan al-Taʾālīf” which was the first medical book in the history that contained images for the tools used in the operating surgery in his time.

it is divided up into 30 volumes ; each one dealt with a different aspect of medicine, such as ophthalmology, pharmacology, nutrition, and many others.

there is no doubt that al-Zahrawihas greatly influenced the field of medicine.

He devised a number of surgery tools which he used in his surgeries / operations then.

he also has many contributions in the fields of pharmacology and sterilization.

the study uses descriptive, historical and analytical approaches to analyze the data collected from different resources.
