Constantine’s Ahmed Bey palace (19th century) preserves in its galleries several wall paintings, which represent urban landscape of middle-east cities.
these are located on the ground floor of the large garden.
among these representations, we find Candia (Greece), the main object of our research.
these murals were executed at the request of the owner: the Bey Ahmed (1786-1851).
the analysis of this representation -confronted with the repertoires of urban and architectural images from western iconography, as well as Islamic miniatures (from 13th to 18th centuries)-allows us to find the artist's inspiration.
thus, the origin of this representation and its areas’ influence which are also identified.
الملخص FRE
Le palais Ahmed bey de Constantine (XIXesiècle) conserve dans ses galeries des peintures murales.
il s’agit de compositions où dominent des paysages urbains représentants des villes du Moyen-Orient.
elles se situent au rez-de-chaussée du grand jardin où figure la peinture représentative de la ville de candie (Grèce), objet de cet article.
ces peintures murales ont été exécutées à la demande du propriétaire: le bey Ahmed (1786-1851).
l’analyse de cette représentation -confrontée aux répertoires d’images urbaines et architecturales issues des iconographies occidentales et des miniatures islamiques (XIIIeaux XVIIIe siècles)- permet de retrouver les sources d’inspirations de l’artiste.
ainsi, l’origine de la représentation et ses aires d’influences sont également identifiées.
