the Arabic novel has recently received a large share of critical studies, as some considered it (The New Arab Divan), in a clear indication of its superiority over poetry, which was the Divan of the Arabs and their very first art, and this saying, whether we disagree or agree with it, is supported by several factors, perhaps the most important of them, the popularity that the art of fiction has in the whole world, the serious issues that address it, and the studies that accompanied and helped that popularity, and from here - too - came the idea of the (Booker Prize) for the novel, which began in the United Kingdom in the late sixties, and branched into several awards, including The Arab Booker Prize, which was established in the United Arab Emirates in 2007, and the novel (A Small Death) by Muhammad Hassan Alwan won it, which is certainly not the main reason that motivated me to choose this novel as the subject of this research, with all its paradoxes and techniques, it was evident in the beginning of a true story in terms of origin, as it is the biography of an Arab philosopher, and an imagined one for a manuscript that tells the story of this philosopher, and the chronological path of that manuscript up to the present day.

The first in this study, after it was preceded by an introduction to the concept of time in the novel, and an introduction presented important research questions and previous studies, and in the second topic it dealt with the most prominent temporal paradoxes, by monitoring the points of retrieval and anticipation in the novel, and in the third topic I talked about the techniques of narration time in the novel , Which was represented by (the summary and the deletion), which are two of the elements of accelerating the narration, and (the scene), which is one of the elements of delaying the timeliness of narration present in the novel, and then concluded with the most prominent findings and recommendations reached by the study.
