where the research reviewed the geographical characteristics affecting the entitlement of those islands to the maritime jurisdiction zones, and traced the delimitation of the continental shelf of Turkey by Turkey on the one hand and by the opposite and the adjacent states on the other hand, it analyzed the discrepancy in delimiting the Turkish continental shelf by linking it to the different legal arguments of Turkey and the opposite and the adjacent states, where Turkey adopts dwarfing the effect of the islands, by granting them only territorial waters, and depriving them of the exclusive economic zone or the continental shelf, and Cyprus, Greece and Egypt adopt maximizing the effect of the islands, by granting those islands the entire zones of maritime jurisdiction, which resulted in the overlapping of the maritime jurisdiction zones of Turkey and those islands, then the research reviewed the possible future scenarios of the dispute over delimiting the continental shelf of Turkey, the research concluded that the legal uncertainty about the effect that should be given to the islands adjacent to the Turkish coast has caused the emergence of two limits to the Turkish continental shelf, one of them expands the area of the Turkish continental shelf to a maximum of about 156, 6 thousands km2, and the other narrows it to only about 64.2 thousands km2, as those islands are deducted for the calculation of their maritime jurisdiction zones about 92.4 thousands km2, equivalent to about 59% from what Turkey claims as a continental shelf.
