The study aims to identify the correlation between cognitive failure and achievement motivation among high school students.

The statistical analysis sample consisted of (200) students and (150) students for the main research sample of students who failed in the preparatory sixth grade for the academic year 2017-2018 in high schools in the city of Baquba.

The researcher built a measure of cognitive failure, and the researcher built a measure of academic achievement motivation by figuring out the psychometric characteristics of the scale.

After processing the data statistically using the Pearson correlation coefficient and the T-test for one sample and for two samples, the results showed that the preparatory sixth grade students have higher level of cognitive failure than the hypothetical average.
