The research aims to identify the effect of the numbered heads strategy on the achievement of second-grade average students in the subject of social studies and the development of their probing thinking (2021-2022).

The researcher used the experimental design with two equal groups, experimental and control, with two tests, before and after, and the research sample consisted of (64) students, chosen by the researcher intentionally from the research community, divided into two groups, with (32) students in the experimental group and (32) students in the control group.

These two groups are in a number of variants: The age in months, the degree of sociology for the first intermediate grade, the general average for the first intermediate class, the intelligence test, and the academic achievement of the parents.

Achieving the research objective required the presence of two tools, the first of which was an achievement test in the sociology of the second intermediate class, prepared by the researcher himself, and its validity and stability were verified, The second is a probing thinking test adopted by the researcher, and it is a probing thinking tool prepared by (Al-Hamdani, 2020).

Its validity and reliability were confirmed, and the researcher relied on this tool because it fits with the current research.

The experiment was applied on Wednesday 10/11/2021 The experiment took an entire semester, and the experiment ended on Sunday 16/1/2022 by applying the post-test of probing thinking to the two research groups.

When processing the data statistically, the results showed a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (0.05) between the average scores of students in the experimental and control groups in academic achievement and the development of probing thinking and in the interest of the experimental group.

In light of the results and conclusions, the researcher presented a number of recommendations and suggestions, including: The necessity of social studies teachers' interest in using active learning strategies whose steps include cooperative learning Because it has a major role in reducing individual differences between students and developing their mental abilities, and conducting a study to find out the effect of the listening teams strategy in developing complex thinking among students of the fifth literary grade.
