This paper studies some important developments in Maqāṣid theory by examining an important contemporary scholar who has his own unique views that contain genuine contributions to answering some of the most pressing questions concerning the theory of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah, Objectives of the Sharīʿah.

The chosen subject of study is Sh.

Abdullāh b.

Bayyah who has contributed to the field of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah with his many writings.

He has made notable contributions to most of the major topics of Maqāṣid theory.

This paper surveys his contributions to the study of Maqāṣid as a concept and the study of its precursors, its historical development, its theoretical basis, and its relationship to the sharīʿah evidences and to the science of Uṣūl al-Fiqh.

It also presents a brief overview of his vision and his personal conclusions on the most important issues of Maqāṣid theory, such as the categorization of Maqāṣid, the methodology of discovering Maqāṣid, their parameters, their gradation, the relationship of the universal (kullī) to the particular (juzʾī), and the relationship of Maqāṣid to the long-term outcome of actions.
