This study stems from the problem that despite being characterized by a high degree of know-how to anticipate alternative future scenarios, knowledge from science fiction and future studies did not support their systematic integration.

The paper argues that as future studies can support science fiction with its methodological approaches, science fiction can similarly support future studies.

This paper seeks to crystallize a vision of two overlapping problems related to the naming of science fiction itself.

The first deals with the problem of the relationship between fiction and science fiction, while the second addresses the problem of the relationship between science and science fiction.

Finally, the paper links the topic of science fiction to Arab contexts, and to the future of science and technology, especially in light of the developments and challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
