"In this research, we analyzed the effects of moving away from gender stereotypes on the job satisfaction of male and female employees in general and the job satisfaction of employees in leadership positions.

Based on social role theory, counter-reaction mechanisms resulting from a violation of social role norms, and role discrepancy theory, we predicted that moving away from gender stereotypes would have a negative impact on job satisfaction.

In this sense, we tested our hypotheses by applying multiple linear regressions hierarchically to the data of the German employee.

The results show a consistent negative effect of moving away from gender stereotypes on women's job satisfaction only.

Our results have been consistent with recent studies that confirm the existence of traditional gender structures that affect the labor market.

The results have increased our knowledge about the effects of counter-reaction because they indicate that moving away from gender norms affects not only objectives of indicators for jobs, but also personal indicators of the employees.

Since job satisfaction serves as a predictive indicator of organizational success, we discussed ways in which organizations can reduce the harmful effects of gender stereotypes inherent in work environments.
