al-Hasana district is considered one of the most important area in north Sinai governorate, because of its extended area and massive resources and enablers that can contribute to achieving sustainable agricultural development in Egypt.

the problem of the study represents in answering the following main question: to what extent can al-Hasana district in north Sinai governorate -with its economic and agricultural resources-has the ability to contribute to achieve a positive change in the agricultural development process in Egypt? in light of this problem, the study generally aimed to explore and identify the most important enablers and resources of agricultural development in al-Hasana district, as an attempt to provide the decision-makers with these factors, to guide them when formulating plans and policies related to sustainable development.

in order to achieve the objectives of the study, both descriptive and quantitative statistical analysis methods were used, in line with the objectives of the study, depending on the secondary data issued by information and decision support center in the directorate of agriculture, north Sinai governorate, and also on the field data obtained through a random sample of olives producers in al-Hasana which amounted to 76 farmers, during the agricultural season of 2021.

the findings of the study indicated that there are an obvious prospects for agricultural development in the Sinai governorate in general, and in al-Hasana district specifically.

the study found that there are a valuable economic and agricultural resources in al-Hasana that can be exploited to expand the cultivated area in north Sinai governorate, and then achieve a noticeable leap in the cultivated area in Egypt.

al-Hasana district has a great agricultural enablers that need to be exploited.

these enablers represents in arable fallow lands, seasonal fallow areas, water resources (rain, shallow and deep wells), dams and valleys, agricultural cooperative associations, agricultural governmental bodies and units in the region, livestock and fisheries, in addition to the high economic efficiency in the production of strategic crops (olive).

the results also indicated that there are some obstacles and problems that may limit the expansion of olive cultivation in al-Hasana district.

the most important of these obstacles are summarized in the high prices of production requirements such as labor, mechanical work, organic fertilizers, and the modest role of some government bodies such as agricultural extension.

the study concluded the following recommendations: expansion of olive cultivation in al-Hasana district through exploiting the reclaimable area, preserving the available water resources in al-Hasana district and rationalizing their uses, implementing a specific strategy for the advancement of olive in al-Hasana district in particular and in north Sinai governorate in general, overcoming all problems and obstacles that limit the expansion of olive cultivation, and the necessity to activate the role of agricultural extension in the field of raising awareness of farmers and guiding them to grow olives as one of the most important main crops in al-Hasana district.
