الملخص الإنجليزي

This study aimed to find out the expectations variance and its relationship to alienation and psychological exhaustion among medical students at the Islamic University.

The researcher followed the descriptive analytical approach and chose a random sample of (131) male and female students of the Faculty of Medicine at the Islamic University.

The following study tools were applied to them: the expectations scale, the psychological alienation scale, and the psychological exhaustion scale, which were all prepared by the researcher.

After verifying the validity and reliability of the study tools, the researcher used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) program to analyze the data, based on the mean, standard deviation, relative weight, t-test, one way ANOVA test, and Scheffe test.

The researcher reached the several results, as follows : 1- The availability of a (medium - high) level in the degree of alienation and psychological exhaustion on the scale among the sample members.

2- There is a positive, statistically significant correlation between the scale of expectations variance in the dimension (1-2-4) and the total score of the psychological alienation scale, with no statistically significant differences in the dimension (3-5).

3- There is a positive, statistically significant correlation between the expectations variance scale and psychological exhaustion.

4- There is a statistically significant predictive relationship in the variables (expectations variance and psychological exhaustion) and the variable (psychological alienation).

5- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of variance of expectations according to the variables (gender - the economic level of the parents - covering the costs of the study - marital status).

6- While there are statistically significant differences in the level of expectations variance according to the variable (study level).

7- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of alienation according to the variables (gender - the economic level of the parents - covering the costs of the study).

8- There are statistically significant differences in the level of alienation according to the variables (study level – marital status).

9- There are no statistically significant differences in the level of exhaustion according to the variables (gender - economic level of the parents – coverage of study costs - marital status).

10- There are statistically significant differences in the level of exhaustion according to the variable (study level).

The researcher recommends intensifying the efforts of psychological support programs for medical students, and holding counseling programs that reduce their level of alienation and psychological exhaustion.

The researcher also recommends the need to direct students’ expectations and giving them continuous guidance throughout the university
