This article is an anthropological study of the symbols of masculinity and femininity in an Algerian oral folk tale, with a universal dimension, entitled: "Kisa and Ghilan".

The aim of the study is to extract images and gender symbols in the text of the tale, in order to know the causes and sources.

We concluded that the distinction between the sexes in humans, with the preference of men over women, was reflected in the distinction between male and female in language and in the view of the world as a whole.
