This study deals with the problem of teaching data science in the Department of Information Sciences at the Faculty of Information at the Lebanese University as a case study of this new phenomenon that began in the West and the extent of the new specialization's relevance to information science and the possibility of unifying or linking them.

Lebanon was the first to apply it among Arab countries, which we hope will be a pioneering experience that other universities will follow.

Information in this study had been collected through interviews with professors from the two specializations, in addition to surveying the opinions of second-year students as they were more mature in their opinions after they skipped the first year.

The study highlighted the divergence of opinions between the professors themselves on one hand and the students on the other hand, which sheds light on the gap that exists between the two specializations and between the professors and students, a matter that must be addressed after conducting in-depth studies and evaluating the experience in all its aspects in an attempt to reform the current situation and avoid more obstacles, and this can be done through awareness-raising on the new specialization, linking it with information science, setting a clear vision and goals, securing infrastructure and technical support, securing practically and academically qualified teachers, establishing partnerships to secure practical training, developing curricula, and the need to specify the designation of what results from this specialization and the difference between the different nomenclatures ...

And since the new specialty is the oil of this era, it is recommended for everyone who has a scientific background and appreciates challenges.
