This article aims to identify the main determinants of the degree of development of social health insurance in Algeria.

to this end, we applied the ARDL estimation method to model the long-term and short-term dynamics of the relationship between the development of social health insurance and its determinants.

the results of the estimation of the long-term equilibrium relationship confirm in particular the existence of a cointegration relationship that positively links the development of social health insurance to the number of doctors per 1000 inhabitants, the number of beds per 1000 inhabitants, to public health expenditure and negatively to the unemployment rate.
