الملخص EN

The research aims to study the geographical characteristics of the Red Sea Basin.

The importance of the research stems from the fact that it deals with the geographical characteristics of one of the most important waterways in the world.

Therefore, the research was interested in providing a modern scientific database based on scientific studies and research prepared in it during the last decades.

The study followed the descriptive approach in order to reach results, including the multiplicity of geographical characteristics of the Red Sea Basin and the diversity of coral reefs on its coast.

One of the most important results of the research is that the Red Sea is characterized by a distinct geographical location that facilitates the regional and international power to access the Indian and Atlantic Oceans through it.

As for the climate, the Red Sea basin belongs to the semi-arid tropical climate, resulting in poor vegetation cover varying from one side to the other according to the geographical location factor and surface features.

The study showed that the Red Sea was known by many names according to its location in the coasts or the cities that overlook it.

The geological formation of the Red Sea dates back about 40 million years, and it is part of the African Rift.

In the Red Sea, there are about 379 small islands belonging to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Eritrea, and most of them are uninhabited, but they can be exploited in military aspects.

It was also found that the Red Sea coast enjoys great tourism potentials, which have not yet been exploited optimally.

The Red Sea is also historically one of the most important waterways in the world, which controls global trade between the world’s continents, especially after digging a canal.

Among the most important results of the research, the Red Sea is characterized by a distinct geographic location that facilitates regional and international power to access the Indian and Atlantic Oceans through it, and this importance increased after the discovery of oil in the Gulf countries.
